Marc Marquez has opened up about the advice he gave to Red Bull Formula 1 driver Isack Hadjar, who decided to sit out the Dutch Grand Prix last weekend. The decision wasn't without reason. Hadjar sustained a wrist injury during a gym session a week earlier, and despite his determination to race at Zandvoort, he ultimately relented after listening to his team and the MotoGP world champion.
In an interview with MotoGP.com, Marc Marquez revealed that Hadjar reached out to him for guidance on his recovery. "I'm not a doctor, but I can offer some advice," he said. "As a rider, it's sometimes hard to accept that you have to skip one race to prepare better for the next one."
Marquez then shared a personal lesson that nearly derailed his career. A severe arm injury at Jerez in 2020 forced him to miss almost the entire season and undergo four surgeries before returning to competitive form. "Missing one race won't change your life. But rushing back and worsening the injury can change everything," he explained.
The advice seemed to resonate with Hadjar. The 21-year-old ultimately chose to focus on recovery, and his absence led to Liam Lawson being promoted from Racing Bulls to replace him at Red Bull, with Yuki Tsunoda taking Lawson's seat at the sister team. This mid-season shuffle underscores the significance of Hadjar's decision.
It remains unclear when Hadjar will return, with the next race scheduled at Monza on September 6. However, with full support from his team and advice from veterans like Marquez, he appears to be making the right call for his future.
