The Higher Sports Council has officially named Marc Marquez as Spain’s best male athlete for 2025. This prestigious recognition follows a phenomenal campaign where the 33-year-old dominated the premier class for the factory Ducati squad, securing his seventh premier class world title and ninth overall in grand prix racing.
His path to glory was highlighted by an extraordinary string of dominant performances throughout the season. The Spanish rider clinched 11 grand prix victories and 14 sprint wins on his way to sealing the championship crown at the Japanese Grand Prix last year, successfully ending a six-year wait since his sixth world title back in 2019.
That six-year gap was defined by immense adversity following a major career setback at the start of the 2020 campaign. Marquez badly broke his right arm in a heavy crash at the Spanish Grand Prix that year, sidelining him for the entirety of the season and forcing him to undergo four major surgeries between 2020 and 2022 to correct the severe damage.
As physical recovery progressed, the factory Honda machine grew increasingly uncompetitive, prompting the rider to terminate his HRC deal early to join Gresini Ducati for 2024. Three race wins that year earned him a coveted factory Ducati seat for 2025, which he immediately converted into world championship glory.
With this seventh premier class crown, Marquez is now level on titles with Valentino Rossi. Notably, this is not the first time he has claimed Spain's top athletic honor, having previously won the exact same award back in 2014 following his dominant early years in the premier class.
