Marc Marquez grabbed headlines during the Japanese Grand Prix weekend not only for his stellar pace on track but also for an unexpected pre-race ritual. The reigning MotoGP world champion caught everyone off guard at the Motegi grid by performing a series of push-ups right next to his motorcycle ahead of both the Sprint and the main Grand Prix.

Footage of the Ducati star dropping down for push-ups instantly went viral across global social media channels, generating numerous memes and questions. However, the Spaniard quickly clarified that the unusual exercise was far from a joke or a stunt for the television cameras.

Typically, MotoGP riders complete their physical warm-up routines well before leaving the pit lane for the starting grid. According to Marc Marquez, the issue lies in the excessive amount of time that elapses between that initial warm-up and the actual moment the red lights go out.

"Hier had ik het gevoel dat ik het op deze manier moest doen. Normaal gesproken doen we de spieractivatie wanneer we ons pak aantrekken, ongeveer 25 minuten voor de start. In de tijd die daarna verstrijkt tot aan de start koel je weer af," Marc Marquez explained to reporters after the chequered flag dropped at Motegi.

By extending his muscle activation routine all the way to the grid, the veteran rider found a practical way to keep his body fully prepared for the immense physical demands of a premier-class race. He emphasized that being physically warm prevents discomfort when the race starts. "Door de push-ups op de grid te doen, voel ik me bij het begin van de race beter voorbereid. While the internet viewed it primarily as an entertaining moment, it clearly served its purpose as a functional preparation method. Whether it directly influenced his performance or not, Marc Marquez dominated the entire weekend in Japan, taking victory on both Saturday and Sunday.
