Facing a tough challenge at the Mandalika circuit, Marc Marquez firmly refused to blame the Ducati set-up for the traction issues he experienced throughout the Indonesian MotoGP weekend. The eight-time world champion openly admitted that the core of the problem lay within his own riding style, even as Aprilia demonstrated a clear traction advantage.
Following Friday practice, the Spanish rider had expressed high optimism to his crew in the latest Inside Ducati video feature. He explained that the more rubber laid down on the track surface, the better it suited his riding preference since he relies heavily on extreme lean angles.
However, traction troubles persisted into Saturday, prompting Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi to suggest potential changes. Tardozzi felt it necessary to suggest altering both body position and bike set-up to extract more grip from the rear tire.
Yet, the rider immediately shot down the notion of mechanical blame by insisting it was entirely on him. After securing fourth place in qualifying, he delighted the garage by securing a surprise Sprint victory after several front-runners hit trouble.
The Grand Prix brought a tougher reality on Sunday as he crossed the line in sixth place following an intense, draining battle with rookie sensation Pedro Acosta under a blistering 60-degree track temperature.
