The battle for the MotoGP 2026 world championship intensified as Marc Marquez issued a firm defense regarding the Borgo Panigale factory's decision to borrow design ideas from their closest rival, Aprilia, insisting that manufacturers cannot afford to be arrogant.
Friday's practice sessions at Phillip Island once again highlighted a thrilling duel between the reigning champion and the fierce RS-GP machines across the fast corners of the legendary Australian circuit. After topping FP1, the Spanish star secured the third-fastest time behind Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez during the afternoon dry running.
Amidst the high-stakes weekend, attention naturally drifted toward a notable technical update tested on the factory Desmosedici: a rear swingarm aerodynamic package heavily inspired by the Noale-based manufacturer's philosophy. Addressing the addition, the multi-time world champion offered an open-minded perspective on the development.

"I kept it because from the beginning I didn't feel worse. So when you introduce a new thing, and you don't feel worse, it means that it can work better and better in the future," Marquez told the media when explaining the team's ongoing evaluation of the new parts.
He further elaborated that elite motorsport competition demands continuous adaptation rather than institutional stubbornness, noting that learning from rival concepts remains an essential pillar of engineering progression in the premier class.
"For me, an engineer, a rider, a person - you cannot be arrogant and only use your ideas. Sometimes you can learn from the others, sometimes the others can learn from you. The most important thing is growing and trying to improve yourself and your team, and it's what we try to do," he stated firmly.
With only five rounds remaining in the 2026 season and unpredictable rain forecasts threatening to disrupt Saturday and Sunday's proceedings, Marquez remains encouraged by the relentless efforts of his crew while holding a razor-thin two-point advantage over title rival Jorge Martin in the standings.
