The remarkable ninth world championship secured by Marc Marquez has earned him one of the highest civilian sports honors in his homeland. The Spanish Supreme Sports Council officially announced that the iconic rider has been named Spain's Athlete of the Year for 2025, following his awe-inspiring campaign in the premier class.
Throughout the previous season, the rider completely dismantled the competition aboard his Ducati Desmosedici machinery. He clinched a staggering eleven Grand Prix victories alongside an impressive tally of fourteen sprint race triumphs, ultimately sealing his championship crown with a commanding performance in Japan.
This prestigious accolade arrives as a fitting tribute to one of the most astonishing comebacks in modern sports history. Back in 2020, a horrific crash at the Jerez circuit fractured his right upper arm, triggering years of physical agony, multiple surgeries, and a prolonged dry spell while struggling with uncompetitive machinery in the Japanese camp.

His career resurgence gained massive momentum when he joined the Gresini satellite squad in 2024 to claim three GP wins, paving the way for his eventual promotion to the factory squad. The resilience required to overcome years of adversity and reclaim the global throne ultimately convinced the Spanish sporting authorities to bestow the coveted award upon him.
It marks the second time the Catalan maestro has claimed the distinction, having previously received the award in 2014 after securing his second premier-class crown. He joins an elite echelon of motorcycle racing legends who have won the title, including Jorge Aspar Martinez in 1987 and Jorge Lorenzo in 2010.
