The 2026 Australian Grand Prix qualifying session at Phillip Island delivered sheer drama as Marc Marquez bounced back from an early crash to secure a stunning pole position. The factory Ducati rider produced a blistering 1:34.203s lap time after sliding off during his very first flying lap at Miller Corner.
The early mishap forced the Spanish star to jump onto his spare Desmosedici GP26 machine with 10 minutes remaining on the clock. Quick work from the Ducati garage allowed him to head back out on track and unleash his maximum pace on the final of his seven laps.
Reflecting on the dramatic recovery, Marc emphasized the urgency of overcoming his initial mistake. "So just to cover my big mistake, you cannot crash on the first lap because it means that you don’t have a lap time," Marquez said.

He further added, "I made a mistake at Turn 4, but the team was ready with the other bike. I kept focus, I tried to find the same feeling as free practice, and the last lap is the one that I hit all in and it was a good lap."
Joining him on the front row for the upcoming Tissot Sprint and Grand Prix is brother Alex Marquez, alongside LCR standout Johann Zarco who successfully advanced through Q1 to complete the top three.
