Liam Lawson Stunned by 2,000bhp Ford SuperVan

Liam Lawson described driving the Ford SuperVan 4 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed as an experience that defied logic because its performance was far removed from that of a conventional van.

The Racing Bulls driver sampled several different vehicles throughout the Goodwood weekend, but the SuperVan 4 ranked among the most extreme. The high-performance electric machine was developed by Ford and Austrian motorsport specialist STARD.

The SuperVan 4 produces approximately 2,000bhp and can accelerate from 0-100km/h in under two seconds. Lawson said its enormous power and soft-compound tyres delivered an exceptionally high level of grip.

“It has 2,000 horsepower, so it is obviously very impressive. It has really soft tyres, which means it has plenty of grip, but driving a van at that speed does not really make sense,” Lawson said.

Lawson had previously driven a different version of the SuperVan on a circuit. He had also raced against one in a drag contest while driving a Formula 1 car.

According to Lawson, the vehicle’s appearance and dimensions are the only obvious reminders of its van origins. Its ability to approach 200mph creates a striking contrast with its size and aerodynamic profile.

“I remember doing a drag race with one of these while I was driving a Formula 1 car. The sight of a van punching through the air at nearly 200 miles per hour was just insane,” he added.

Lawson’s SuperVan 4 appearance added another element to his Goodwood Festival of Speed programme and highlighted the contrast between a Formula 1 car and an experimental electric vehicle producing extreme power.
