Lindblad enters Formula 1 this year as the only full-season rookie on the grid, following his promotion to Racing Bulls for the 2026 campaign. He joins Lawson at Red Bull’s sister team as the squad begins its adaptation to a radically revised technical framework, which places increased emphasis on early development direction, correlation accuracy, and operational efficiency.
Racing Bulls officially launched its on-track programme during the Barcelona shakedown this week, using the limited running available to establish a baseline understanding of its new car. Within that context, the relationship between Lawson and Lindblad is viewed internally as a critical component in accelerating the team’s learning curve during the opening phase of the season.

As the more experienced driver in the line-up, Lawson is expected to shoulder a greater share of responsibility in guiding car development. “So far it has been good,” Lawson said when asked to assess his working relationship with Lindblad.

The Bahrain International Circuit is expected to present a markedly different challenge to Barcelona, offering Racing Bulls a broader set of conditions against which to validate its early conclusions.
“Honestly, just to keep learning,” Lawson said when asked about the team’s objectives heading into Bahrain.
“It’s so early days at the moment.”
Lawson highlighted that Bahrain’s contrasting layout and climate will be instrumental in expanding the team’s understanding of the car’s operating window. The combination of higher track temperatures, abrasive asphalt, and a different balance of corner types will test aspects of tyre management, cooling performance, and energy deployment that could not be fully assessed in Barcelona.
“We’re going to go to Bahrain on a very different track with a very different climate as well,” he explained.
“It’s going to be very, very different.”
From a developmental standpoint, the Bahrain test will serve as Racing Bulls’ first meaningful opportunity to examine correlation between simulation tools, wind tunnel data, and real-world performance. Any inconsistencies identified at this stage could significantly influence the team’s early upgrade path and resource allocation.
For Lindblad, the opening phase of the season represents a steep learning curve not only in terms of driving a Formula 1 car, but also in integrating into the team’s technical processes. As the only rookie on the 2026 grid, Lindblad’s adaptation is being closely monitored, with communication playing a central role in ensuring his feedback is effectively incorporated into development discussions.

“It’s great for us to learn how the car performs at very different places, different tracks,” Lawson continued.
“Outside of that, the main goal is to just try and keep learning and improving the car and discovering what we can.”
