The qualifying session at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez delivered breathtaking drama as Lewis Hamilton clocked a sensational lap time of 1m16.514s to seal a remarkable pole position. The British driver edged out his former Mercedes teammate George Russell by a razor-thin margin of just 0.009 seconds, leaving the younger Briton to settle for second place after extracting every ounce of performance through the technical corners of the Mexico City venue.

This achievement marks a monumental milestone for the seven-time world champion, securing the 105th pole position of his illustrious career, his very first in Scuderia Ferrari colors, and his first since the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc clinched third on the grid, finishing a further 0.119 seconds adrift after briefly holding provisional pole during the frantic closing moments of Q3.

Further down the order, Max Verstappen could only manage fourth fastest after making a costly mistake on his final push lap. The Red Bull driver's Sunday outlook is further complicated by a one-place grid penalty stemming from an FP2 incident with Liam Lawson, which subsequently promotes world champion contender Kimi Antonelli up to fourth on the starting grid.

At the other end of the competitive spectrum, Oscar Piastri endured a nightmare qualifying afternoon, eliminated in Q2 and forced to line up a disappointing 13th. The Australian lamented a severe lack of grip throughout his runs, marking his worst qualifying performance of the campaign and his first Q2 exit since the previous year's Mexico City event.
