Lewis Hamilton Reveals Full Ferrari F40 Restoration in Maranello

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has shared the full story and video documentation behind the painstaking restoration of his Ferrari F40. The extensive revival project took place directly at the legendary Italian manufacturer's headquarters in Maranello, following the car's initial public reveal ahead of the Italian Grand Prix earlier this year.

In a video released on his YouTube channel, the British driver detailed how he discovered the iconic sports car covered in dust after sitting untouched in a garage for over thirty years. Pulling the red cover off the vehicle at the start of the footage, Lewis Hamilton reflected on the significance of the car, which accompanied his very first photoshoot upon joining Ferrari.

"When I joined Ferrari, my first shoot with the team was with this car. It was... It's just such an iconic car. It's one of the most iconic cars ever," Lewis Hamilton stated while admiring the classic machine.

The video provides a glimpse into the unique backstory of this specific F40 chassis. According to Lewis Hamilton, the car was originally collected in 1991, but its previous owner drove it for a mere 69 kilometers before storing it away indefinitely.

"And this car was picked up here in 1991. And the guy drove it 69km and parked in his garage, and it's never started since," he explained.

The footage features a montage of photographs capturing the weeks of detailed restoration work carried out by master engineers and mechanics at the Maranello factory. The clip culminates with Lewis Hamilton lifting the cover to inspect the finished masterpiece for the very first time.

"She looks so good! Wow! She looks brand new," he exclaimed with a wide smile, before settling into the cabin to fire up the 2.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, whose powerful roar echoed through the warehouse.

As reported by Motorsport.com, the revival concluded with a special photoshoot at a disused section of the Monza circuit, featuring the legendary banked corner that added a historic backdrop to the Ferrari F1 star's dream project.
