A stunning turnaround unfolded at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as Lewis Hamilton dramatically secured pole position for the Mexico City GP. This remarkable achievement marks his first pole position as a Scuderia Ferrari driver and his first since the 2023 season, silencing any doubts about his single-lap pace.
Throughout the opening days of the weekend, the media spotlight was firmly fixed on his teammate, Charles Leclerc, after the Monegasque driver dominated both Free Practice sessions on Friday. However, overcoming a tricky start that included a troublesome engine issue on the opening day, the British racing icon bounced back brilliantly to claim the 105th pole of his illustrious career.
Speaking in Parc Ferme immediately after the session, a visibly emotional driver admitted he was completely overwhelmed. "That felt great. That feels good. Hola Mexico! So happy. Oh man, I'm lost for words," he expressed to the cheering grandstands.

Reflecting on the grueling journey to the front of the grid, he added, "It has been a really, really tough, challenging weekend. Obviously, in P1 we had a rake running, and we had the engine issue yesterday which meant we were on the back foot. I didn't get to do a long run, but we've really done a really good job with the setup over the weekend and learned a lot from the last race."
With this milestone, the 41-year-old further etches his name into the history books by becoming the oldest pole-sitter in Formula 1 history. Addressing how he maintains his competitive edge, he emphasized the power of mindset and unwavering passion for the sport.
“When there's a will, there's a way, and I think it's all in the mind. I ice bath a lot and do different things to try and keep myself young and fit. But I love what I do, and that love is not gone. I wake up every day thinking about it, and I dream about it,” he concluded.
