Lewis Hamilton has delivered a significant technical assessment following qualifying for the 2026 Miami Grand Prix, stating that the Ferrari simulator may have led him in the wrong direction regarding car setup. The seven-time world champion qualified sixth on the grid.

Hamilton highlighted that the SF-26 underwent major setup changes compared to the sprint and sprint qualifying sessions, resulting in a noticeable improvement in performance ahead of qualifying. However, the gains were not enough to challenge at the front.

"We made a lot of changes to the car and that brought improvement. Q2 was strong, but in Q3 I couldn’t extract the maximum."

From a technical standpoint, the “miles different” feeling suggests a substantial shift in aerodynamic balance and mechanical setup. This likely involved changes to load distribution, tyre behaviour, and suspension configuration, all of which influence performance at the limit.

Hamilton acknowledged that simulator work carried out during the April break at Maranello may not have accurately correlated with real-world track conditions in Miami, highlighting ongoing challenges in simulation accuracy.

"If I’m honest, the simulator sent me in the wrong direction. I might reduce that going forward."

Despite the setback, he recognised progress following the setup revisions but admitted that a top-six position falls short of expectations at Ferrari.

Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc delivered a stronger qualifying result, indicating differing setup approaches between the two drivers in extracting performance from the car.

With wet conditions expected for race day, Hamilton believes the revised balance could offer improved competitiveness, particularly in low-grip conditions where stability and power delivery become critical. Focus now shifts to race execution, where adaptability will be decisive in Miami.
