Charles Leclerc has urged Kimi Antonelli to remain calmer in wheel-to-wheel battles following their clash during the Miami Grand Prix sprint. The Ferrari driver admitted his earlier radio criticism was influenced by emotion, but maintained concerns over aspects of Antonelli’s driving.
The two fought closely in the early stages after Antonelli lost positions due to a poor start—later attributed by Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff to a technical glitch. Leclerc managed to overtake and hold position in what became an intense on-track battle.
"Kimi is very bad in wheel-to-wheel. He moved under braking, we were going to crash," Leclerc said over team radio during the race.

After the race, Leclerc clarified that his comments were too harsh, acknowledging the role of adrenaline. However, he reiterated that certain elements of Antonelli’s racecraft need to be moderated to avoid unnecessary risks.
"I was probably too harsh because of the adrenaline. But we’ve had moments before, and I hope things calm down going forward."
From a technical standpoint, wheel-to-wheel battles in braking zones represent one of the most critical phases in racing, where sudden movements can increase the likelihood of contact. In sprint conditions, the margin for error is even smaller.
Leclerc also pointed to the broader context, noting that Antonelli is currently the only Italian driver on the grid competing directly against Ferrari. While this adds an emotional dimension, he emphasised that he still holds personal respect for the Mercedes driver.
With Antonelli also impacted by a post-race penalty, the incident added complexity to both drivers’ weekends. Attention now turns to qualifying and the main race, where composure and precision in racing battles will be decisive in shaping the outcome in Miami and beyond.
