Charles Leclerc finally found a breakthrough before the summer break. After a season of ups and downs, the Ferrari driver secured his first win since 2024 at the British Grand Prix and followed it with second in Belgium. But behind the podium smiles, he harbors a deeper concern about how Formula 1's new-generation cars operate.
For Charles Leclerc, the biggest challenge is not just raw pace, but the inability to fully understand where he is losing time. He says that with the complexity of the 2026 cars, drivers can no longer rely solely on data to find instant answers.
"It's not as black and white as it used to be," Leclerc told media including RacingNews365. "There are so many variables. In the past, you could look at the data and immediately see where you were losing time and what to change in your driving. Now, if you change your driving but the car setup goes the other way, you end up even worse."

The season has been a rollercoaster for the Monegasque. He started strongly with podiums in Australia and Japan, then lost rhythm as the European rounds began. Ferrari struggled in Canada, where Leclerc called it one of the worst races of his career due to braking issues. However, a key moment came at Silverstone, where major setup changes on Friday night led to his victory.
Leclerc stressed that finding the right performance requires an open mind. "I started the season comfortable with the car, then in Montreal and Monaco I struggled a lot. After changing quite a few things, the performance came back. It shows that the problem is not simple," he explained.
He also dismissed the notion that aggressive driving is always the key in this new era. "I don't agree that being particularly aggressive works, at least with our car. It might for another," he said. This statement underscores that adapting to the 2026 cars is not a one-night job, but a long process requiring deep understanding.
With the summer break now over, Leclerc carries positive momentum and valuable lessons. The question remains: can he maintain consistency as the second half of the season unfolds? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the road to peak performance in modern F1 is never as easy as it seems.
