Charles Leclerc will not face a grid penalty for this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix after his Ferrari engine survived a high-speed crash at Monza. The Scuderia confirmed only the transmission casing needs replacing, not the entire power unit.
The incident occurred on lap two of the Italian Grand Prix, when Charles Leclerc lost control through the Parabolica at over 230 km/h. The car bounced over a water drain, sending him wide into the tyre barrier while defending from Oscar Piastri's McLaren.
Ferrari's analysis showed the impact produced deceleration exceeding 50G. Despite the severity, the SF-26 chassis remained intact, sparing the team from introducing a new engine for the Madrid round.
The Spanish GP offers Ferrari another chance to evaluate its ADUO engine upgrade, which debuted at Monza, though the team admits it is not a 'game changer'.
Monza proved disappointing for the Italian squad, scoring just eight points via Lewis Hamilton's sixth-place finish. Both drivers nearly collided on the opening lap.
Ferrari now trails championship leader Mercedes by 122 points, after Kimi Antonelli's win at Monza made him the first Italian to win his home race since Ludovico Scarfiotti in 1966.
