Laurent Mekies Rules Out Red Bull F1 Engine Supply Deals for Now
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Red Bull is running its own power in collaboration with Ford

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies has categorically denied ongoing rumours suggesting that the team's newly developed power unit could be supplied to customer outfits in the near future within the Formula 1 world championship. This strategic stance comes in the wake of an astonishingly competitive campaign for the power unit, which was meticulously engineered in-house by the Milton Keynes squad in close collaboration with American automotive giant Ford for the radically new 2026 technical regulations, marking a historic milestone for the organization since its debut back in 2005.

Despite widespread pre-season skepticism and low expectations regarding whether the freshly built Red Bull-Ford power unit would struggle during its inaugural competitive season, the machinery has proven to be an absolute masterpiece on track. It has propelled star driver Max Verstappen to consecutive brilliant victories at Grand Prix events in both Malaysia and Singapore. The immediate competitiveness of the power plant naturally turned heads throughout the paddock, capturing the intense interest of rival competitors looking for an edge under the current aerodynamic and engine regulations.

Official assessments conducted by the FIA under the ADUO framework further fueled the paddock chatter by ruling that Red Bull possessed the benchmark Internal Combustion Engine across both evaluation periods in the 2026 season. This dominance naturally sparked intense paddock whispers, with outfits such as Aston Martin heavily linked in rumors to potentially securing the Red Bull-Ford power units down the line following a challenging and underwhelming partnership phase with Honda. Nonetheless, the leadership group inside the championship-leading outfit remains firmly grounded.

Addressing the external interest, Laurent Mekies admitted that the unexpected spotlight on their engineering prowess has brought a wave of unrequested attention from rival teams across the pit lane. "We got a lot of unwanted positive publicity about the performance of our engine, and that came with certainly attentions from a lot of teams," Mekies stated while breaking down the current situation regarding future power unit supply inquiries.

Elaborating further on the prospect of expanding their engine-building footprint, the Red Bull team boss confirmed that no concrete agreements or advanced talks are currently underway with any external parties. "Are we having any serious conversations with anyone to supply another team? No, we don’t think we are ready for that. Is it set in stone for the next five years? No, because I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next five years," Mekies explained. He emphasized that significant work remains to optimize the power unit's integration into the chassis before taking on additional customers alongside Racing Bulls.
