Lando Norris secured a dominant victory in the 2026 Miami Grand Prix sprint race, leading a McLaren one-two finish ahead of Oscar Piastri. Starting from pole position, Norris controlled the 19-lap race from start to finish, underlining the effectiveness of McLaren’s upgraded MCL40 package.
Piastri successfully held off pressure from Charles Leclerc to secure second place, completing a strong team result. The performance highlighted improvements in aerodynamic balance and tyre management, particularly under Miami’s high-temperature conditions.
Championship leader Kimi Antonelli endured another difficult start, losing ground immediately off the line. Although he initially finished fourth after passing George Russell, a five-second penalty for track limits violations dropped him to sixth, reducing his points advantage in the standings.

"We were able to control the race from start to finish, with strong consistency throughout the stint."
The most intense on-track action came from the renewed rivalry between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The pair battled closely throughout the race, including contact on the opening lap and multiple overtakes, with Verstappen eventually securing the position after initially being forced to give it back.
From a technical standpoint, McLaren’s ability to manage tyre degradation and maintain stability through technical sections proved decisive. Meanwhile, Mercedes continues to face challenges with start procedures and setup consistency, impacting overall race execution.
The race also saw two non-starters, as Nico Hulkenberg of Audi suffered a fire on the way to the grid, while Arvid Lindblad of Racing Bulls failed to start after being scheduled to begin from the pit lane.
This result strengthens McLaren’s position as a serious title contender while tightening the championship battle. Attention now shifts to the main race, where Norris will aim to convert this momentum into a full race victory amid increasing pressure from rivals.
