Lando Norris has revealed there are still elements of the McLaren car he wants to adjust, despite delivering a dominant performance in the Miami Grand Prix sprint race. His unchallenged victory highlights the potential of the upgraded MCL40, yet Norris believes further gains are possible.
With parc fermé conditions lifted after the sprint, teams are now free to implement setup changes ahead of main qualifying. This gives Norris the opportunity to refine car balance, particularly in aerodynamic load distribution and tyre response under high track temperatures.
"It’s worked so far, but we’ll probably change a couple of things. There are a few things I want different from yesterday, so we’ll adjust them."

From a technical perspective, McLaren’s sprint dominance indicates that the upgrade package has significantly improved aerodynamic efficiency and overall stability. However, requirements for qualifying and the main race differ, especially regarding tyre degradation and long-run consistency.
Norris also highlighted the importance of balancing aggression with control during the race, particularly in demanding heat conditions that increase both physical and technical stress.
"I was still pushing, trying to find the balance between pushing hard and staying relaxed without making mistakes. It’s been a good start to the weekend."
Competitively, rivals such as Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes, along with team-mate Oscar Piastri, remain key threats, particularly as further setup refinements are made across the grid. This suggests McLaren’s advantage is not yet guaranteed without continued optimisation.
With momentum on its side, McLaren now faces the challenge of maximising setup flexibility to maintain its edge in qualifying and the main race. Consistency in development and execution will be critical in sustaining its status as a front-running contender in the 2026 season.
