Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Lance Stroll has pointed to an additional area of concern within the Aston Martin F1 Team package, highlighting a weakness that has received less attention compared to the widely discussed vibration and battery issues affecting the AMR26.

The Silverstone-based team has endured a difficult start to the 2026 season, with multiple technical challenges impacting overall performance. The vibration issue linked to the Honda power unit has dominated early discussions, even preventing drivers from consistently completing full race distances.

It was not until the Japanese Grand Prix that both Stroll and Fernando Alonso were able to approach a full race run under more stable conditions. Alonso reached the chequered flag, albeit a lap down, while Stroll retired due to a water pressure issue, underlining the ongoing reliability concerns.

Beyond these headline problems, the overall performance of the AMR26 remains significantly off the leading pace, with deficits in both power unit output and aerodynamic efficiency contributing to the gap to front-running teams.

“Everyone is working as hard as possible to improve the situation. None of us are happy with where we are. It’s not the start to the season we wanted,” Stroll said in an official media session.

Crucially, Stroll emphasised that the team’s challenges extend beyond the power unit, identifying performance in high-speed corners as a key weakness that requires immediate attention.

“We know we have issues on the engine side, but there are also areas of the car we need to improve. High-speed corners are still a weakness for us,” he explained.

This assessment aligns with early evaluations of the car designed under the direction of Adrian Newey, which, despite showing underlying potential, has yet to deliver on initial expectations. Newey has suggested that the package could still evolve into a competitive contender if its untapped performance is unlocked.

With challenges spanning the power unit, chassis, and aerodynamic platform, Aston Martin faces a comprehensive development task. The current focus is on accelerating performance gains across all critical areas to reduce the deficit to its rivals.

As the championship progresses, improvements in high-speed corner performance will be a key indicator of whether Aston Martin can begin to close the gap and stabilise its competitiveness heading into the next phase of the 2026 Formula 1 season.
