KTM has firmly dismissed any speculation about selling its MotoGP team, with CEO Gottfried Neumeister stating that the Austrian manufacturer is now financially stable enough to fully support its racing programme. The announcement came at the Red Bull Ring on Friday, ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix.
Neumeister confirmed that KTM has signed a five-year deal with Dorna Sports, the commercial rights holder of MotoGP, for the new 850cc era set to begin in 2027. "We've signed the five-year deal with Dorna [for the new 850cc era], it's very clear we will not sell the team, we will not sell a little part of the team, we're fully committed," he said.
The KTM CEO also highlighted the company's ambition to secure the MotoGP title, one of the few championships that has eluded them. "The MotoGP title is one of the few titles we have not yet won," Neumeister added, underscoring the brand's determination to succeed at the pinnacle of motorcycle racing.
This declaration comes after a turbulent period in 2025 when KTM faced a financial crisis, reportedly "burning cash," which put pressure on its motorsport spending and fueled rumours that the MotoGP project could be sold or opened to outside investment. However, Neumeister revealed that the company has managed a remarkable turnaround.
"In the second quarter, we managed to break even on EBIT level. For the first time in almost two years, seeing profits was really a great sign, great relief," he explained. KTM also sold nearly 100,000 motorcycles in the first half of the year, further solidifying its financial position.
Neumeister emphasised that motorsport is ingrained in KTM's DNA and serves as a test lab for its production bikes. "Motorsport is our DNA, it's our test lab. Whatever we learn here, we can then translate into our series production," he said. He also pointed to KTM's successes in various racing disciplines, including Dakar, which have continued even during difficult times.
With this statement, KTM sends a clear message to the MotoGP paddock that its commitment remains unwavering. The focus now shifts to chasing the elusive MotoGP world championship as they prepare for the 850cc era.
