KTM has officially confirmed that Luca Marini will join the Tech3 satellite team for the 2027 MotoGP season. The decision followed careful consideration, with Marini's enthusiasm for the RC16 project and renowned development skills cited as key factors.
KTM Motorsports Director Pit Beirer revealed that Marini showed interest from the very beginning. "We are really happy that he's coming on our side," Beirer said at Aragon. "It's important that somebody really wants to come here and help make the bike better."
Experience and Youth: Tech3's Winning Formula
KTM deliberately avoided placing two young riders at Tech3, as the team is not a rookies' squad but a full-size, strong MotoGP team. Beirer stressed that pairing an experienced rider with a promising rookie is the ideal combination.
Marini, currently in his second year as a factory HRC rider, will be part of an all-new four-rider KTM line-up. Alex Marquez and Fabio di Giannantonio have already been confirmed at the factory Red Bull team, while Marini is expected to be joined by rookie Senna Agius at Tech3.
A Fresh Start with Positive Energy
Beirer emphasized that this major overhaul is the perfect moment to "restart" KTM's MotoGP programme. The new technical regulations for the 850cc/Pirelli era present a golden opportunity to build a new foundation.
"We have to use this moment to give a kind of restart to the project with new riders, with many people coming who believe in the project. I think this is really good energy filling up for the future," Beirer explained.
KTM's confidence is further boosted by the positive reception from their other new riders, who know exactly what Marini is capable of in terms of bike development. This adds significant value to the team.
Meanwhile, Enea Bastianini will leave Tech3 to join Trackhouse Aprilia, while the injured Maverick Vinales is set to exit the grid. This major reshuffle marks a new chapter for KTM in MotoGP.
