The intense on-track action at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace Interlagos heated up further as the Formula 1 weekend progressed. Kimi Antonelli emerged as the fastest driver in the second free practice (FP2) session of the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix. The talented young Italian driver showcased incredible speed behind the wheel of his Mercedes machine, clocking a benchmark lap time of 1:10.763 that went unmatched by his closest rivals at the sharp end of the field.
The battle at the top was intensely close with extremely narrow time gaps separating the front-runners. Lando Norris, relying on the pace of his McLaren challenger, had to settle for second place, finishing 0.253 seconds adrift of the pacesetter. Meanwhile, reigning world champion Max Verstappen rounded out the top three positions after posting a time 0.259 seconds behind Antonelli, highlighting a fierce competitive outlook heading into the crucial qualifying sessions and race day.
Further down the order, technical battles unfolded within other top-tier garages. George Russell secured fourth place for Mercedes, followed closely by Oscar Piastri in fifth. The Scuderia Ferrari duo of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc finished sixth and seventh respectively, as both drivers worked hard to overcome tyre grip issues and aerodynamic balance challenges through Interlagos' demanding technical corners.

Meanwhile, interesting dynamics unfolded across the midfield and lower grid. Rookie driver Gabriel Bortoleto representing Audi managed an impressive eighth position, while Franco Colapinto for Alpine slotted into eleventh place. On the other end of the spectrum, experienced veteran Fernando Alonso for Aston Martin had to dig deep to finish fifteenth, while Nico Hulkenberg failed to register a lap time due to technical gremlins.
This second practice session provided a clear indicator of aerodynamic performance and tyre compound management capabilities across all teams. With razor-thin margins separating the front-running pack, precise braking zones and strategic tyre conservation through the challenging Brazilian circuit will prove decisive for anyone aiming to secure glory in this 2026 championship round.
