Championship leader Kimi Antonelli was caught on camera making a minor driving error in the car park at the Circuit of the Americas. The rising star was maneuvering his personalised Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe when the lighthearted incident occurred right alongside his team-mate George Russell's vehicle.
The young Italian driver went slightly too far while reversing into a parking space, resulting in a gentle tap against the wooden fence situated behind him. While the damage to the luxury sports car was entirely superficial, the moment quickly caught the attention of fans gathered nearby who captured the unexpected parking mishap on video.
Demonstrating his relaxed demeanor amidst intense championship pressure, Antonelli played to the crowds immediately following the bump by performing a quick tyre burnout. The impromptu action filled the paddock area with thick smoke before the Mercedes driver shifted his complete focus back to the crucial on-track sessions of the weekend.
Away from the car park drama, the championship leader has enjoyed a sharp and competitive weekend on track as the team evaluates their latest technical upgrades. Following data gathering sessions from previous rounds, the squad has fine-tuned their aerodynamic package to extract maximum performance from the car.
“Since Singapore we were able to analyse the data and understand better what this package needs,” the Italian rising star explained regarding the ongoing technical progress. Holding a commanding 102-point lead heading into Sunday's grand prix, the young charger stands on the brink of rewriting history as the youngest world champion in the sport.
