Kimi Antonelli Secures 2026 Formula 1 World Title
Kimi Antonelli has officially been crowned the 2026 Formula 1 world champion after finishing third at the Mexico City Grand Prix. The result was sufficient for the Mercedes driver to secure the drivers' championship, making him the youngest world champion in Formula 1 history.
Antonelli claimed the title at 20 years, 2 months and 7 days old. He broke Sebastian Vettel's previous record, set in 2010, by 3 years, 2 months and 4 days. The achievement marks a significant milestone in the Italian driver's career with Mercedes.
Antonelli now leads the drivers' championship with 380 points, holding a 119-point advantage over Max Verstappen, who has moved into second place with 261 points. Verstappen strengthened his position by winning the Mexico City Grand Prix, moving ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who sits third on 259 points.

The battle for the remaining positions in the top four also remains competitive. George Russell is fourth with 250 points, followed by Charles Leclerc on 245. Lando Norris occupies sixth place with 221 points, while Oscar Piastri has collected 144 points.
In the constructors' championship, Mercedes has yet to secure the title despite Antonelli already winning the drivers' championship. The constructors' crown will remain undecided until the Brazilian Grand Prix, the next round of the 2026 Formula 1 season.
With the drivers' title now settled, attention turns to the remaining constructors' battle. The Brazilian Grand Prix will provide Mercedes with its next opportunity to secure the teams' championship in the 2026 Formula 1 season.
