Kimi Antonelli Admits Tension and Fatigue Ahead of F1 Title Decider in Mexico

Immense pressure is currently weighing heavily on the shoulders of talented Italian driver Kimi Antonelli ahead of the crucial Formula 1 world championship title decider at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Amidst intense paddock scrutiny, the 20-year-old rising star openly admitted that he is feeling tense, exhausted, and struggling to get a proper night's sleep due to the overwhelming expectations surrounding him throughout the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend.

The grid lineup places the championship contender in a favorable position, starting from the third row in fifth place before inheriting a further position gain following a grid penalty handed to his rival, Max Verstappen. Meanwhile, the front row is locked out by Scuderia Ferrari as Lewis Hamilton delivered a sensational performance to claim pole position alongside his teammate, George Russell.

Even though Antonelli only needs a ninth-place finish to etch his name in history as the youngest Formula 1 world champion of all time, the mental burden he carries is far from light. Speaking to the media, he candidly revealed that his physical condition was compromised prior to the Mexico weekend, having suffered from a high fever and stomach issues that compounded his mental fatigue.

“I am a bit tense and during Q3 I had very little grip. Simply put, it was not my best qualifying session,” Antonelli explained to DAZN Spain, admitting, “Now I will try not to think about tomorrow, but just to spend a nice afternoon and evening with family and friends and sleep well tonight. Tomorrow could be a big day and I need to control my emotions.”

He reiterated a similar sentiment to Sky Sports F1, noting that he does not feel 100 percent relaxed as usual this weekend. The constant chatter from everyone around him has forced the young talent to seek alternative ways to recover his physical condition before the lights go out for Sunday's grand prix.

“I feel very tired, everywhere I go and at every hour I hear the same things repeated over and겠습니다. Everyone tells me it is done and dusted, and knowing myself, I have tried to ignore those voices. At the beginning of the week I had a high fever and stomach problems, now I cannot sleep well. I will load up on melatonin so I hope to sleep at least 10 hours and I will try to relax as much as possible,” Antonelli admitted with striking sincerity.

With depleted physical energy and peak psychological tension, the clear path forward for the young Italian star in the main race is to maintain composure, steer clear of opening lap chaos, and secure the vital points needed to claim the world championship crown.
