The intense rivalry in the Junior Drag Bike category is set to heat up once again as the ANDRA Championship enters its second season. After a remarkable 2025/2026 campaign where five riders—Cooper Plummer, Aliza Harris, Lawrence Raschella, Riley Kilvington, and Bailey Paul—arrived at the finale tied on points, all eyes are now on Cooper Plummer, who emerged as the inaugural champion and also took home the John Storm Memorial Trophy.
Plummer's victory last season not only cemented his status as the best but also made him the target for his rivals. Bailey Paul had to settle for runner-up, while Aliza Harris completed the podium. However, with a new season underway, all records seem to be reset, and the competition is expected to be even tighter.
The Desert Nationals in Alice Springs serves as the first stage for riders to show their mettle. In the 2025 edition, Harris emerged victorious, while Plummer was the top qualifier but had to settle for runner-up. Now, as the defending champion, Plummer is certainly aiming for a better result.
"It means a lot, to be the first Junior Bike rider to win the John Storm Memorial, and the first junior in 11 years, and to win the title. I worked hard for it, I had been chasing an ANDRA title for six years, and to finally get it was a dream come true," said Plummer. "I am feeling decently confident heading into the Desert Nationals as Number 1. Last year was a lot of fun, even if it was a little bit of a bummer for me being runner-up! Hopefully I can go one better this time around."
Plummer also predicts the competition this year will be even more intense. "I am expecting an even more competitive championship this year. Last season was only the first full championship season for Junior Drag Bike, so now everyone has a bit of practice under their belt, we are expecting more people coming in, and I think it is going to be even closer and more fun this year. I can't wait to get going into a new title fight in Alice Springs."
Meanwhile, Aliza Harris, who won at Alice Springs last year, arrives with high confidence. "I am very excited to return to Alice Springs after winning there last year in what was my first final. I was very happy with placing third in the championship in my debut season especially as I was still learning as I went. I am looking forward to seeing where the 2026/2027 season goes. I think it will be a very competitive and interesting season, and getting a good start in Alice would be important not just for my ANDRA campaign, but also because it would be great to mark my second visit there with hopefully another win."
With Plummer, Harris, Raschella, and Paul all entered for the Desert Nationals, which also marks rounds one and two of the new 2026/2027 ANDRA Regional Sportsman Championship with bonus points on offer, Alice Springs shapes up as a crucial early opportunity for the category's key players to set the tone for their new title chases. The pressure is on, and every twist and turn will be decisive.
