Jorge Martin secured a brilliant pole position at Motegi, but the Japanese GP Sprint race brought an unexpected twist for the championship leader. When the lights went out, the Spaniard immediately lost his early advantage as Marc Marquez stormed past him into the opening corners.
The turning point arrived in the latter stages of the race when severe tyre blistering crippled his rear soft compound. Martin admitted that he had received no prior warning signs during practice, making the sudden drop in grip particularly challenging to manage on a demanding stop-and-go layout.
Defending fiercely against a late charge from Enea Bastianini on the final lap, Martin clipped the green section beyond the track limits. A subsequent penalty dropped him down to third place, handing crucial points to his title rivals and narrowing his championship lead to just seven points.

Despite surrendering valuable ground, the reigning title contender remained upbeat about his raw pace throughout Saturday. He confessed that his overall speed exceeded pre-race expectations, though tyre strategy for tomorrow's main Grand Prix remains wide open.
As reported by FormulaPassion, Martin stressed that anything can happen in tomorrow's race as teams re-evaluate tyre durability to prevent a repeat of today's late-race struggles.
