Jorge Martin admits he is prepared for a challenging weekend at the 2026 Catalan MotoGP despite arriving with strong momentum following his dominant Le Mans victory with Aprilia.
The Spanish rider now sits just one point behind team-mate Marco Bezzecchi in the MotoGP standings after leading Aprilia’s historic one-two-three finish at last weekend’s French Grand Prix.
Martin secured a perfect Le Mans double after controlling the Sprint Race from the front before overtaking Bezzecchi late in the main grand prix. The result further strengthened Aprilia’s position as the most consistent manufacturer during the opening phase of the 2026 season.

“Le Mans was incredible. I really enjoyed that moment and for Aprilia to finish first, second and third felt unreal. I’m really happy for them,” Martin said in Barcelona.
Despite arriving full of confidence, Martin admitted Catalunya could become one of the most difficult circuits for Aprilia due to the nature of the layout and the manufacturer’s previous struggles there.
“I think this could be one of the most difficult tracks for us. I really like the layout, but Alex Marquez won here last year and KTM can also be very strong. We need to be ready to suffer,” Martin explained.
The Aprilia rider also revealed that development work on the RS-GP has continued to move in a positive direction since the Jerez test, including major adjustments to his riding position and a specially designed fuel tank shape.
Martin admitted he initially struggled physically when he first rode the Aprilia because of how quickly fatigue affected him during races.
“When I first jumped onto the Aprilia, I was getting tired very quickly. It was a big problem for me. So we focused heavily on my riding position and the ergonomics of the bike,” he said.
According to Martin, Aprilia made significant progress developing new components, particularly the redesigned fuel tank that has now become a key solution for improving his comfort on the motorcycle.
“Aprilia have been incredible in designing new parts. The new tank is working really well,” he added.
Martin also admitted he has a complicated emotional relationship with Catalunya. While Barcelona was the circuit where he secured the 2024 MotoGP title, it has also been the scene of several painful crashes during his career.
“I have very good memories here, but also bad memories. I broke my foot here and I also crashed while leading in Moto3,” Martin said.
Even so, Martin explained he now appreciates every racing moment far more after overcoming multiple injuries and difficult periods throughout his MotoGP career.
