Jon Armstrong faces a make-or-break moment at Rally Chile 2025. The 31-year-old Irishman has shown glimpses of speed with eighth-place finishes in Sweden and Japan, but a spate of retirements has left his WRC future hanging in the balance.
Armstrong is pinning his hopes on a turnaround in Chile. “I’m looking forward to Rally Chile. The stages look a little bit like Wales Rally GB and seem to have a really nice rhythm to them, so I’m excited to get out there,” he said. He also acknowledged the potential impact of road cleaning, especially on Friday. “It also looks like road cleaning could play quite a big role, especially on Friday, so we’ll have to see what the weather does over the coming week and how much we can make use of that effect with our road position.”
Rally Chile features only 16 special stages, but many are lengthy. Armstrong is not daunted. “The event is a little shorter than Paraguay in terms of the number of stages, but the stages themselves are generally longer, particularly on Saturday, so it will be a different kind of challenge.”
His focus is clear: precision and rhythm. “Our focus will be on taking it stage by stage, enjoying the event and really concentrating on being precise with our driving. Hopefully we can find a good rhythm early on and build from there.”
With pressure mounting, Armstrong knows he must deliver. A strong result in Chile could secure his future, but another disappointing outing might spell the end of his WRC journey.
