Bad news for Honda. Their lead rider, Joan Mir, will not participate in the Japanese and Indonesian Grands Prix. The decision comes after a series of medical tests following his unwell condition at Misano.
Mir had already missed the Austrian GP last weekend. Now, he faces a longer absence. In an official statement, Honda revealed that blood test results showed altered parameters requiring further investigation. Doctors have recommended a three-week rest period to recover.
For Honda, this is a headache. They must find replacements for two crucial races, including their home race at Motegi. Takaaki Nakagami will race as a wildcard with the HRC Test Team, so he cannot fill Mir's seat full-time. Names like Aleix Espargaro and Cal Crutchlow have emerged as potential substitutes.
Regardless, Mir's journey with Honda will end in Valencia. A four-year partnership full of ups and downs, with only two podiums and 79 crashes in 70 races. Next year, he will ride for Gresini on a Ducati. But for now, his focus is on recovery.
Mir's absence in the two Asian races is a major blow for Honda, who are struggling to improve the RC213V. Without their lead rider, development for the rest of the season could be hampered. However, Honda still has time to find the best solution.
