Jake Dixon ended Friday at Magny-Cours with a sense of relief and optimism, finishing 11th in both free practice sessions for the French WorldSBK round. For a rider whose rookie season was nearly derailed by injury, it was a small but meaningful step forward.

In FP2, Jake Dixon was half a second off the pace set by Nicolo Bulega. The time itself was nothing spectacular, but the context tells a deeper story. A crash in Australia forced him to sit out until the UK round, and since returning, he has struggled to find his rhythm. Friday, however, felt different.

“Nothing to shout about but definitely a step better than where we’ve been since coming back from the injury,” Dixon told WorldSBK.com. “We’ve got a lot of work to do still, and as a team we know it’s not exactly where we need to be. But after a difficult start, I think we are starting to gain a bit of momentum after a couple of good tests.”

HRC had tested at Magny-Cours a few weeks prior, and Dixon admitted that familiarity gave him an edge. He even ran inside the top five early in the session, a sign that the hard work in the tests was paying off.

“Obviously it’s better than turning up and being here for the first time,” he said. “You naturally have an idea of where you’re going. That’s a credit to the team’s dedication during the tests.”

Still, Dixon remains grounded. He knows practice times rarely reflect race situations, especially qualifying. Tonight’s analysis will be crucial as he looks to improve in specific areas before Superpole and Race 1.

“It’s definitely not where we need to be or want to be, but we know as a team we’re strong. Things are starting to look up, and hopefully we can build from now until the end of the year and into next year,” he added.
