Jack Miller Slams Qatar GP As Yamaha Withdraws From Event

The tension within the MotoGP paddock reached a boiling point immediately following the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend at the Sepang International Circuit. Outspoken rider Jack Miller delivered a fierce critique regarding the upcoming championship round at the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar. Shortly after his candid remarks echoed through the media, Yamaha officially announced its withdrawal from the Middle Eastern Grand Prix event.

Regional security concerns in the Middle East have triggered mounting anxiety among competitors who have been demanding concrete safety guarantees from championship organizers. Miller, who crossed the finish line in sixteenth place at Sepang, asserted that his reluctance to travel to Qatar was shared by the vast majority of the starting grid, highlighting a deep collective unease over current geopolitical instability.

"I do not want to go to Qatar, and I believe that applies to everyone else. There are nineteen of us who do not want to go there. I do not think we should race under such conditions, and we have expressed our position very clearly," Miller stated firmly when speaking to reporters after the race.

The Pramac-linked rider emphasized that the competitors had stood united to defend a stance that protected not only themselves, but also the hundreds of technicians, media personnel, and operational staff who make the world championship possible. He argued that the surrounding regional risks could not simply be brushed aside for the sake of scheduling obligations.

"I understand that right now the situation in Qatar might be secure. I genuinely love Qatar, I really do. But the problem is the surrounding countries. There is massive uncertainty, and we are talking about organizing a global event. We cannot hide from reality; everyone knows where we will be and at what exact time," he added.

A critical factor driving the riders' resistance centered on liability and accountability in the event of unforeseen emergencies. Standard insurance coverages and evacuation plans provided by promoters failed to offer adequate peace of mind to athletes facing potential regional escalations.

"Who is going to take ultimate responsibility if something happens? That remains completely unanswered," Miller concluded, underlining the profound safety crisis currently threatening the closing stages of the motorsport calendar.
