Yamaha has officially confirmed that Jack Miller will join its WorldSBK project as a factory rider on a two-year deal. The announcement marks the end of Miller's 11-year stint in the grand prix paddock and ushers in a new chapter with the Japanese manufacturer for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
The 31-year-old Australian brings a wealth of experience from MotoGP, including four wins and 23 podiums. His arrival is expected not only to bolster performance but also to play a key role in the development of the Yamaha YZF-R1. Miller has already had a taste of the R1 in endurance racing at Suzuka, albeit with different specifications.
This move fills the seat vacated by Xavi Vierge, who earlier announced his exit from Yamaha at the end of the 2026 season. Miller is seen as an ideal replacement given his extensive grand prix experience, including his familiarity with Michelin tyres, which are also used in WorldSBK.
"I am really excited to announce that I’m heading over to WorldSBK together with Yamaha, extending our partnership together," Miller said. "I have really enjoyed working with the brand these past few years in MotoGP and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to see what we can do on the R1. I’ve had a small taste of the bike at Suzuka the last couple of years, and while the WorldSBK-spec bike is a bit different I am really looking forward to this next chapter in my career."
Yamaha Motor Europe Road Racing Sporting Manager, Niccolo Canepa, welcomed Miller's arrival. He noted that Miller's grand prix experience, particularly his knowledge of Michelin tyres, will be extremely valuable. "The opportunity to bring a rider of his experience and talent into our official team was too good to miss," Canepa said. "We are already looking forward to the first tests. Beyond the technical side, Jack’s personality and international profile will also be a great asset in strengthening Yamaha’s presence and bringing even more attention to the WorldSBK Championship."
With the two-year contract, Miller is expected to be competitive on track and become a key figure in the ongoing development of the R1. This move underscores Yamaha's ambition to fight at the sharp end of WorldSBK while maintaining a strong relationship with a rider who has been an icon in MotoGP.
