Fermin Aldeguer's challenging campaign has hit another physical roadblock after the team officially confirmed his absence from the upcoming Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. The young Spanish rider is still deeply focused on his ongoing physical recovery, forcing the Gresini Racing squad to make a swift replacement choice to keep their competitive momentum alive this weekend.
According to the official announcement released on Monday, Iker Lecuona will once again step up to pilot the factory-spec Ducati machine in place of Fermin Aldeguer. While the regular rider shifts his sights toward a potential comeback in Malaysia in less than two weeks, his stand-in prepares to tackle the high-speed demands of the iconic Australian circuit.
This latest setback traces back to the Indonesian Grand Prix held at Mandalika, where Fermin Aldeguer suffered a heavy crash on the second lap of Sunday's main race while running strongly in fourth position. The unfortunate accident resulted in a fracture to the base of the first metacarpal in his right hand, requiring immediate surgical intervention in Barcelona.

Although the surgery performed on October 13th was declared a complete success, medical advisors agreed that Phillip Island comes far too early in his rehabilitation timeline to risk a premature return. The team opted against rushing the healing process, marking yet another forced hiatus in a season heavily disrupted by injuries for the young Spaniard.
Stepping into the vacant Gresini Racing box is familiar territory for Iker Lecuona, who previously filled in during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and delivered a stellar seventh-place finish earlier in the year at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
