Luca Marini has voiced his frustration as Honda’s momentum in MotoGP 2026 fades. Despite relentless effort since joining in 2024, results this season have not met expectations. With the Japanese manufacturer shifting focus to the new 850cc regulations next year, Marini feels the window for growth is closing.
“From 2024 to now is completely different in every aspect. It was like a revolution in a very good way,” Luca Marini told Crash.net. “But the rule change for next year is a pity. We could do much more in 2026 if the rules stayed as they are.”
Last season, Honda celebrated two podiums with Joan Mir and moved out of concession Rank D. This year, however, the RC213V has managed a best finish of fifth, scoring 29 fewer constructors’ points than at the same stage in 2025.
Marini, who will move to Tech3 KTM next season, acknowledged that the team had built a solid foundation. “Now that it’s ready, it’s still missing some little pieces to enjoy more with results. We enjoy the garage atmosphere, it’s fantastic, but we lack bigger results and the chance to fight for them every weekend,” the Italian added.
Big changes await Honda next year as Fabio Quartararo joins, and the second factory seat will go to either Diogo Moreira or David Alonso. Marini gave his verdict: “Both are super talented. Diogo is doing everything well, and the data shows he’s correct. So why not him?”
The decision will shape Honda’s future in the new era. Meanwhile, Marini hopes to finish this season strongly before moving on.
