A fiercely contested battle involving Shearer at the rear end of the top 10 during the opening race of the weekend ended dramatically following a high-speed crash. The action intensified as Blake Purdie struggled to maintain pace aboard his Audi during the opening laps of the event.
Driving a solo Porsche entry, Shearer fought hard to fend off pressure from Super2 racer Cody Burcher before wheel-to-wheel contact occurred at the end of the back straight. The impact sent Shearer's car hard into the wall on the driver's side before sliding directly into the tyre barrier situated on the outside of Turn 6.
In a miraculous sight following the enormity of the impact directly to the driver's side, a devastated Shearer managed to climb out from his heavily damaged #46 Porsche completely unscathed. Meanwhile, Burcher was able to continue circulating in eighth position aboard Dean Campbell’s #118 Ford Mustang with seemingly minimal damage.

Race control deployed the safety car for several laps as the field circulated under caution, before race officials waved the red flag shortly after the 25-minute mark due to significant structural damage sustained by the Armco barrier. The red flag period lasted for just under 10 minutes before the field was successfully brought back under the control of the safety car following barrier repairs and car recovery.
At the front of the field, Cam McLeod capitalized early on to take the lead from Caleb Paterson, who slipped back to third position behind Lachlan Evennett. Further updates regarding Shearer's physical condition and the status of the #46 entry are expected to follow.
