Facing torrential rain hammering the Surfers Paradise area, McElrea Racing star Harri Jones successfully secured the 2026 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia championship crown with a round to spare. Starting the race from pole position on a thoroughly soaked track, Jones led the field away initially before relinquishing the lead to New Zealand's Tom Bewley, who executed a decisive move at the hairpin on the opening lap.

Even as Tom Bewley held station at the front to claim his maiden Carrera Cup victory, Harri Jones settled sensibly into second position. This calculated tactical approach was more than enough to mathematically seal the title once and for all, with David Russell no longer able to catch up in the standings regardless of the remaining race and final round.

Extreme weather conditions turned the race into a chaotic affair dictated by multiple safety car interventions and incidents around the street circuit. The competitive field contested just three green flag laps at the very start, even with Scott Taylor coming unstuck at Turn 1 and finding the wall on the outside of the braking zone, forcing him to limp the battered #222 entry back to the pits. The safety car was deployed for the first time on Lap 4 when Diesel Thomas spun on the exit of Turn 3, glancing the barrier.

Racing resumed briefly on Lap 8 for all of about 20 seconds before yellow flags flew yet again as leader Tom Bewley skated sideways into Turn 1. The safety car was immediately redeployed, circulating for two more laps before officials rightfully called out the red flag, declaring the race finished due to the worsening and dangerous track conditions.

With the results finalized, Tom Bewley took the race win, Harri Jones finished second to take the championship glory, and Aaron Love rounded out the podium in third after passing Clay Osborne during the brief green flag dash. Glen Wood completed the top five ahead of David Russell and Daniel Quimby, while Matt Belford bounced back from an earlier crash in Race 1 to claim the Pro-Am class victory in 12th place outright.
