The 2026 racing season has dealt another severe physical blow to Fermin Aldeguer following a heavy crash during the opening lap of the grand prix at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit. The Spanish rider suffered a painful accident at turn 16 while displaying strong competitive pace in the early stages of the race.
Starting from an impressive sixth position on the grid, the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP rider had executed a stellar launch and quickly fought his way up to fourth place before disaster struck on the opening tour. The unfortunate tumble resulted in a fracture at the base of the first metacarpal bone in his right hand, making surgical intervention an absolute necessity upon his return to native soil.
Renowned motorsport trauma specialist Dr. Xavier Mir successfully performed the corrective surgery on the injured right hand in Spain. Taking to his personal social media channel, the Ducati rider provided a reassuring update regarding the outcome of the medical procedure to his supporters.

"Weer een tegenslag in dit seizoen 2026g Alles oke met de rijder! Bedankt Dr. Mir en zijn team," reflected the rider as he confronts yet another setback during a challenging 2026 campaign.
Although the surgery was a complete medical success, participation in the upcoming Australian Grand Prix scheduled for October 23-25 at Phillip Island remains highly doubtful. Factory team manager Davide Tardozzi already expressed serious doubts during the Indonesian weekend regarding an immediate comeback for the injured Spaniard.
This fresh injury marks the third time this season that the rider has faced significant physical sidelined issues, complicating the final stretch of the championship before his planned team switch for the upcoming 850cc era next year.
