Lewis Hamilton delivered what he considers the absolute standout qualifying lap of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Piloting his Ferrari machine, the veteran racer carved his way onto the front row at the Sepang International Circuit.
Clocking a 1m35.428s, Hamilton finished just 0.298s adrift of polesitter Max Verstappen. The result came as a welcome surprise after a tricky start to Q3 where the Briton initially found himself languishing down in fourth place before nailing his final flying run.
"That was one of my most enjoyable laps of the year, I have to say, and probably my best lap of the year," Hamilton shared in the paddock. He explained that extracting the ultimate limit from the car required an incredibly fine balancing act across the power unit and mechanical setup.

Attention now shifts to Sunday's grand prix where race pace will tell the true story. While the Ferrari package boasts strong cornering agility, Hamilton remains wary of their traditional straight-line speed deficit along Sepang's lengthy acceleration zones.
