Tension filled the Ferrari garage during the sprint qualifying shootout at the Marina Bay Circuit as Lewis Hamilton openly shouldered the blame for a flawed run plan decision in SQ3 that dropped him down to sixth place.
The Scuderia had shown immense promise earlier in the session, locking out the top two spots in SQ2 with Charles Leclerc leading the timesheets and Hamilton just three tenths adrift. However, the dynamics shifted significantly when regulations forced all teams to switch from medium to soft tyres for the top-ten shootout.
While rivals like McLaren and Mercedes headed out immediately and Red Bull waited until the dying seconds, Ferrari split the difference. Leclerc and Hamilton ventured onto the track in the middle of the eight-minute session. While Leclerc managed a second attempt after a cool-down lap, Hamilton's sole effort left him 0.546s shy of Max Verstappen's benchmark.

"It was looking good in Q1 and Q2, and theng I don’t really know where it went away," Hamilton reflected on his struggles. "We did a slightly different run plan to the others. It was my choice, and I think we got that wrong."
Hamilton further explained that his car suffered from severe oversteer during that decisive lap, making the handling incredibly snappy and difficult to manage. Although he felt extremely comfortable on the mediums during earlier phases, the soft compound failed to deliver the necessary rear grip.
