Former Formula 1 team principal Gunther Steiner has completely reversed his previous stance regarding Oscar Piastri's future, after previously suggesting a potential team switch during a mid-slump period that saw him lose out to his McLaren teammate and Max Verstappen in the championship fight.
Earlier, the talented driver from Melbourne looked poised to secure a dominant title win before a dramatic performance dip toward the end of the season allowed Lando Norris to seize control of the intra-team battle and ultimately finish ahead in the standings.
That difficult phase triggered widespread external criticism and advice from various paddock figures, including Steiner, who once pointed out on a podcast that a fresh start elsewhere might be necessary if the young Australian failed to rediscover his peak form over the winter break.

However, speaking recently to Speedcafe.com, the South Tyrolean pundit shifted his perspective entirely, insisting that abandoning the Woking-based squad now would equate to running away from a challenge that he is entirely capable of overcoming through hard work and determination.
āIm Moment halte ich es fur besser, wenn er bleibt, denn sonst wurde er im Grunde genommen vor McLaren den Schwanz einziehen,ā noted Steiner, emphasizing that the driver remains talented enough to fight his way back to the front without needing to seek refuge in rival outfits.
Addressing the points deficit against his teammate, Steiner cautioned against overreacting to a campaign that he views as merely average rather than disastrous, pointing out the limited seat availability at top-tier organizations as another practical reason to stay put.
āWir alle haben gute und schlechte Jahre. Und er hat kein schlechtes Jahr, es ist eher durchschnittlich. Er ist noch jung, deshalb ist es nun wichtig, dass er nicht in Panik verfallt. Denn dazu besteht kein Grund,ā concluded Steiner, urging the young star to stay calm and focused on his long-term progression.
