GT4 Australia will end its 2027 season in a way it never has before: an endurance race at the iconic Mount Panorama. The circuit will host the series twice in one year, bookending the season with different formats.

The first event is a regular two-race sprint round as part of the Bathurst 12 Hour support card on February 11-13. Then, on October 29-31, GT4 Australia will close the season with a longer, single race. The race length has yet to be confirmed by SRO Motorsports Australia.

SRO Motorsports Australia boss Ben McMellan told Speedcafe that feedback to the calendar had been "extremely positive". He believes it's the best calendar since SRO began operating in Australia.

"For GT4 to go to Bathurst twice, obviously it's the most iconic circuit in the country. Anytime you can go there once is great, so twice and going there with two different formats will be a really, really strong addition to the calendar," said McMellan.

The decision to add an endurance race wasn't taken lightly. McMellan acknowledged cost sensitivities among customers, but GT4 cars are built for endurance racing and fans love it. "Obviously if we were going to do an endurance race to justify the additional costs, it has to be something special. Bathurst was obviously the ideal location that everyone wants to do an endurance race at," he added.

GT4 Australia has enjoyed strong growth since its inception and even began the 2026 season oversubscribed. McMellan is confident of strong grids at Bathurst, including potential one-off entries from non-season participants. "People, if they have a car and only want to do one or two rounds a year, obviously that's probably a round that would be high up on the priority list," he said.

Regarding international interest, McMellan said it was too early to confirm, but he anticipates overseas drivers seeking arrive-and-drive opportunities. "We haven't had at-length conversations with overseas competitors, but we have a really strong grid of Australian customers and we know of many new customers that are buying cars. I'm confident we'll have a really, really strong grid of all the locals," he explained.
