The opening qualifying session on the unforgiving street circuit suddenly turned into a nightmare for several championship hopefuls. Tricky track conditions and constant traps created immediate drama from the opening minutes, knocking major names out of the battle for top grid positions.
Anton De Pasquale of Team 18, alongside Matt Stone Racing's Jack Le Brocq and Grove Racing's Kai Allen, all suffered a shock elimination after failing to advance from Q1 to Q2. Allen recorded the slowest time among them in 22nd place, followed by De Pasquale in 21st, and Le Brocq in 20th during a fiercely contested session.
De Pasquale, who arrived at this season-defining round sitting sixth in the standings, expressed his frustration over missing the optimal tire window. "It felt really good. We were one of the fastest cars for the first two laps and then the track gets faster and we got slower. Obviously just missed the window with pressures. That's how it goes," said De Pasquale.

The challenging track conditions also triggered several tense incidents at critical points around the circuit. Q1 was red-flagged early on when Jackson Walls spun his car at the Beach Chicane and backed into the tire bundle. Similar moments caught out Zach Bates who spun off the kerb at Turn 3, while David Reynolds damaged the nose of his Chevrolet Camaro in another separate mishap.
Meanwhile, the top of the timesheets belonged to Broc Feeney, who secured provisional pole position for Triple Eight Race Engineering. Feeney led teammate Will Brown in second, while Brodie Kostecki claimed third for Dick Johnson Racing, with Chaz Mostert and Cameron Hill rounding out the top five.
