Taylor Gill may not be a household name in the WRC yet, but his performance at Rally Chile last weekend proved that this young Australian has a bright future. Alongside co-driver Daniel Brkic, Gill closed out his 2026 WRC2 campaign with a fourth-place finish in class, equalling his season-best, and 11th overall.
The result in Chile capped off a strong South American tour, following a career-best 10th overall in Paraguay. The duo was building momentum, and Chile was the climax: they didn't just finish, they fought at the front of the WRC2 field.
“The South American tour could barely have gone better,” Gill said. “Obviously in Paraguay we kept our nose clean to get to fourth, but in Chile, it was earned on pure pace and consistency.”
Indeed, Gill's speed in Chile was no fluke. On Sunday, he came close to stage wins. Over the final four stages, he was less than a second away from being the fastest Rally2 car. This shows he can compete with the top drivers in his class.
His strategy was also well thought out. “We had our plans set for the rally, and they went almost perfectly to plan,” he explained. “Gain some confidence Friday, build the speed on Saturday, and continue the push on Sunday was the goal, and to have it come true like that, Dan and I are really proud.”
Throughout the season, Gill and Brkic have shown rapid development. They have drastically narrowed the per-kilometre time gap to the rally winners. “There is still pace to come, so that is a real positive,” he added.
Chile marked the end of Gill and Brkic's planned WRC2 campaign, having contested five rounds this year. Even more impressive, they finished every rally without failing to finish or crashing. “I’m proud of our finishing record especially,” Gill said. “Of course nobody ever means to crash, but to be able to fight the way we have across this year, as well as the FIA Rally Star program before that, and finish every stage in the process has helped a lot with my development.”
While there are no finalised plans for 2027, Gill has made it clear he intends to return to the world stage. If he continues at this rate, he could become a name to watch in the future.
