Drama struck George Russell in the latter stages of the race when his Mercedes power unit suffered a terminal failure under the Safety Car. The British driver was forced to retire his car as it ground to a halt on the approach to Turn 1.
Prior to the heartbreaking mechanical failure, he was running comfortably in third position, trailing his impressive teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli. However, any hopes of limiting the damage were dashed instantly when the #63 Silver Arrows lost all power.
This unfortunate retirement turned what would have been a minor three-point deficit into an 18-point blow, significantly widening the gap in the championship standings. The setback places him at an even greater disadvantage in the fierce battle for the world title.

As a result, Andrea Kimi Antonelli now commands the standings with a dominant 84-point lead heading into this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix. Compounding his misery, George Russell will now be forced to take a grid penalty for a mandatory engine change, relegating him to the back of the starting grid.
As reported by Motorsport Week, the audio message capturing the driver's anguish highlights just how costly this reliability setback is for Mercedes as the season enters its crucial final stretch.
