George Russell has opened up about a personal milestone during the Formula 1 summer break: his engagement to long-time partner Carmen Montero Mundt. The Mercedes driver popped the question during a candlelit beachfront dinner, sharing the news with fans on social media.
Speaking in the drivers' press conference ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, Russell received warm congratulations before revealing the effort behind the proposal. "It was very special, and a lot of thought went into it, especially designing the ring. When I got on one knee, I suddenly couldn't get my words out, I was so nervous, but it was great," he said.
The 28-year-old admitted he fully switched off from F1 during the break, which was crucial before the intense second half of the season. He currently sits third in the standings, 59 points behind team-mate and championship leader Kimi Antonelli, and nine points adrift of Lewis Hamilton in second.

Jokingly, Russell hoped the engagement would bring him a performance boost. "I hope it brings a couple of tenths. Even Lando Norris would get engaged if it did," he laughed.
On a more serious note, he stressed the importance of personal life in the demanding F1 calendar. "We live such a hectic life, and the people we share it with are key. Carmen has been important for so long, so this was just the next step we needed to take," he concluded.
