George Russell has revealed that there was a lot going on behind the scenes during the weekend of his stunning victory at the Singapore Grand Prix in 2025. The Mercedes driver admitted that the street circuit event carried immense emotional and psychological pressure that few people knew about at the time.
Speaking in an interview with Austrian broadcaster Orf Sport, the discussion touched upon images of his celebrations with his partner Carmen Mundt. Russell reflected on how the triumph became profoundly significant because of the off-track burdens he was forced to navigate throughout that specific race weekend.
Psychologically my brain was quite busy, then going out, putting it on pole, winning the race, was a really special moment and having Carmen there as well, Russell stated, emphasizing how crucial her support was while dealing with private issues away from the paddock.
A starkly different narrative defines his 2026 campaign with Mercedes, where he currently sits second in the standings but trails teammate Kimi Antonelli by a massive 102-point margin. Mechanical failures and persistent bad luck have continuously derailed his championship ambitions this year.
With Antonelli dominating the season with eight victories compared to Russell's three, the title race is rapidly reaching its climax. Despite the setbacks, Russell's candid admission highlights the unseen human element behind elite motorsport success.
