The Formula 1 race weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez has once again brought specific challenges for George Russell. The British driver admitted that the newly upgraded package brought by the silver arrows squad is still operating outside its optimal performance window, echoing similar issues previously felt during earlier rounds of the season.
Despite managing to set competitive lap times and securing third position in the second practice session (FP2), finishing just a tenth behind Scuderia Ferrari pacesetter Charles Leclerc, Russell maintained that balance limitations remain evident. This situation forces the driver to work extensively with the engineering crew in the garage to find adequate solutions ahead of qualifying and the main race.
"I think still not fully on top of the new package," said Russell, whose car was driven by a test driver in opening practice. "We see there's some balance limitations we have that we're struggling to overcome. I would say currently for Kimi and I, we're probably more outside the window, similar to what we saw in Malaysia, than inside the window like Kimi achieved in Austin."

Apart from mechanical balance issues, the unique characteristics of the high-altitude venue pose massive technical challenges for all contenders. Turbo performance factors and power unit cooling management become key highlights, given that the thin air in Mexico demands extreme precision in engine operation without the assistance of the MGU-H component under the current regulations.
Nonetheless, the Brackley-based outfit is not hitting the panic button just yet ahead of the remainder of the weekend. Deputy team principal Bradley Lord assessed that the opening day on track was solid, although considerable homework remains through deep data analysis to find the best setup compromise for Sunday's race.
