Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur has firmly refused to blame gusty wind conditions for failing to convert promising practice pace into a coveted pole position during the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix qualifying session at the Circuit of the Americas. Despite setting the benchmark throughout the earlier practice sessions on the Texas venue, the Maranello squad ultimately fell short of securing the front row on a tense Saturday afternoon.
The weekend had begun with immense promise for the Italian outfit, as Charles Leclerc led the field on Friday by topping both FP1 and FP2, while his illustrious teammate Lewis Hamilton stepped up to set the absolute pace during the final practice session ahead of qualifying. However, when the pressure mounted in the top-10 pole shootout, the two experienced drivers could only manage to post the fourth and fifth-fastest lap times respectively for the upcoming grand prix grid.
Rather than hiding behind the variable weather elements that impeded the final flying laps across the grid, Fred Vasseur demanded sharper execution from his engineering and driving crew after missing out on what he believed was a clear opportunity to lock out the front positions. Speaking to the media, the French team boss admitted to having mixed feelings regarding the Saturday afternoon outcome at the sweeping Austin circuit.

“There are mixed feelings for sure because I think the potential was there all over the weekend and we had good pace in all the free practice, and until the last corner, we are fighting for pole,” Fred Vasseur told Sky Sports F1, emphasizing that complaining about the wind would simply be unacceptable given that every competitor faced the exact same atmospheric challenges on the track layout.
Concluding his assessment, Fred Vasseur highlighted the brutal nature of the current Formula 1 grid where margins are so razor-thin that a minor miscalculation of a single meter on braking can instantly transition a driver from hero to zero. Despite the qualifying setback, optimism remains high within the camp, leaning on the positive race pace and past memories of securing victory from the fourth grid slot at this very venue.
